Florida Muslim Is Not Representative of Muslim Values

Osmakac, a Muslim from Kosovo, wanted to hurt the army, but he realized it was out of his league. He investigated bombing three cars from a remote location, but what is the most disturbing is that he wanted to “take out the bridges to neighboring Pinellas County.”

Where did he live? In Pinellas County! He thought he would “crush the economy.” His intentions were serious, since he paid $500 down in order to buy weapons.

Fortunately, it was the Muslims in his community who prevented Mr. Osmakac from carrying out his plan. They informed the authorities who contacted Mr. Osmakac using undercover police.

What upsets me is that his Quran says: “Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious.” (33:60)

Consequently, the Quran makes it abundantly clear that Mr. Osmakac is not following the Quranic teachings by taking care of his neighbors “who are strangers.” The Quran does not specify whether they are kuffar or not. In fact, since he lives in Florida, there must be many “wayfarers” and he is obligated to look after them–not blow them to smithereens!

While it is stressful being Muslim in America, Mr. Osmakac does not have to right to take lives.

If he chose to follow the teachings of the Quran, he cannot crush people in his plot to extinguish the economy

. It is truly sad that he chose to be “arrogant” and “vainglorious” instead.
